For many shelter dogs, a second chance starts with someone walking through the adoption center doors. This July, The Animal Foundation is hoping more families will do exactly that as it joins BISSELL Pet Foundation’s nationwide Empty the Shelters® adoption event, hosting Give a Big Dog a Second Chance.
From July 7 through July 15, adoption fees will be waived for all large adult dogs at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas, making it easier for potential adopters to welcome a new companion into their home.
Helping Large Dogs Find Homes
Large dogs often spend longer periods in shelters than their smaller counterparts, despite making incredible family pets. Through the Empty the Shelters program, BISSELL Pet Foundation is helping remove one of the barriers to adoption by covering adoption fees for eligible dogs.
Adopters will still receive the same benefits included with a standard adoption, including spay or neuter surgery, current vaccinations, and a microchip. An additional $10 licensing fee may apply.
A National Program Making a Local Impact
Empty the Shelters has helped hundreds of thousands of pets find homes since launching a decade ago. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the program continues to partner with shelters across the country to increase adoptions and reduce shelter populations.
Here in Southern Nevada, the event provides an opportunity for local dog lovers to meet some of The Animal Foundation’s adoptable large-breed dogs and potentially change a life in the process.

The Animal Foundation is located at 655 N. Mojave Road in Las Vegas, with adoptions available Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Prospective adopters are encouraged to browse available pets online before visiting and to join the shelter’s virtual waitlist, which opens each morning at 8:00 AM.
