Participants can visit the foster window in the adoption lobby at 655 N. Mojave Road to be matched with a dog.
The Fourth of July is reports 8 News Now the single busiest intake period of the year for Las Vegas animal shelters, with fireworks sending frightened dogs bolting through fences and gates.
Last year, the foundation took in 549 animals in the first ten days of July. Only 89 were ever returned to their owners.
To help owners whose dogs do escape, the Animal Foundation is also waiving all pet reclaim fees from July 1 through July 10.
Proof of ownership is required, and lost dogs must be held for 72 hours before they can be reclaimed.
Owners can register a missing pet at lost.petcolove.org or search the foundation’s online lost and found database.
For those who miss the foster window or cannot bring a dog home, the Animal Foundation is waiving adoption fees on all large adult dogs from July 7 through July 15 as part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters nationwide campaign.
Dog owners heading into the holiday weekend should also confirm that their pet’s microchip registration is current.
The foundation notes that the low reunion rate during Fourth of July week is directly tied to pets arriving at shelters without microchips or with outdated contact information.
