Hearts Alive Village Expands Community Pet Support in Las Vegas

Helping families keep their pets healthy and at home often starts with access to basic resources. That’s exactly what Hearts Alive Village continues to provide through its ongoing community outreach efforts in Las Vegas.

During its most recent Pet Food Bank distribution at the Dolores Huerta Resource Center, the nonprofit served 102 families and distributed approximately 1,400 pounds of pet food, helping ease the financial burden many pet owners face while ensuring dogs and cats continue receiving the nutrition they need.

The organization also announced an expansion of services available during its monthly outreach events, including appointments for its Alexis Project low-cost spay and neuter program.

Pet Food Assistance for the Community

Every first Friday of the month from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Hearts Alive Village’s Human Support Team provides free pet food and available pet supplies at the Dolores Huerta Resource Center.

Depending on inventory, community members may receive dog food, cat food, or other essential pet supplies through the nonprofit’s Pet Food Bank.

Programs like these help families experiencing financial hardship care for their pets while reducing one of the leading reasons animals are surrendered to shelters.

Alexis Project Offers Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Services

In addition to pet food assistance, Hearts Alive Village is now scheduling appointments for its Alexis Project during the monthly outreach events.

The program provides spay and neuter services for bully breeds for a $25 fee, helping make preventive veterinary care more accessible while supporting efforts to reduce pet overpopulation.

At the time of the announcement, appointments were being scheduled for the July 26 clinic. A $25 deposit is required to reserve an appointment.

Pet owners interested in participating can contact the Hearts Alive Village Helpline by phone, text, or email for availability.

Supporting Pets Before Families Reach a Crisis

Community resource programs like pet food banks and affordable veterinary care play an important role in helping families keep their pets during periods of financial hardship.

By combining pet food assistance with access to low-cost spay and neuter services, Hearts Alive Village is working to address immediate needs while also supporting long-term pet health and responsible pet ownership.

These preventive efforts help reduce shelter intake, improve animal welfare, and strengthen the bond between pets and the people who love them.

Why It Matters

For many families, unexpected financial challenges can make it difficult to afford pet food or routine veterinary care. Community programs that provide these essential services help remove barriers before they become emergencies.

Through initiatives like its monthly Pet Food Bank distribution and the Alexis Project, Hearts Alive Village continues to provide practical support that helps keep pets healthy, families together, and more animals out of overcrowded shelters.
