The local sessions are part of a nationwide push.
PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week runs July 20 through 26 at participating PetSmart stores across the country, timed to the peak of summer βkitten seasonβ when shelters often reach capacity, reports PetSmart Charities.
Through its in-store adoption program, PetSmart Charities says it has helped more than 11 million pets connect with families since 1994.
Each adoption during the week frees up space and resources for shelters and rescues to take in the next animal in need.
The timing matters locally as well. Southern Nevada shelters have faced heavy intake this summer, and The Animal Foundation took in 93 animals in the days after July 4 fireworks alone, adding pressure to an already crowded system.
Anyone considering adoption can stop by either PetSmart location during the scheduled sessions. Those not ready to adopt can still support the rescue by asking about foster, volunteer, and donation opportunities.
