Registration for October’s free spay and neuter clinic in Reno appears to have filled almost as soon as it opened.

A Dog Friendly Las Vegas reader commented on our earlier coverage that all 200 appointments were gone within about eight minutes of the 8 a.m. registration window on Tuesday.

We have not independently verified the exact timing.

The claim lines up with a warning SPCA of Northern Nevada posted on its own clinic page ahead of registration, which told prospective applicants that appointments were “expected to fill quickly.”

The clinic, hosted by SPCA of Northern Nevada, Washoe County Regional Animal Services, and Animal Balance, is set for October 16 through 18 at Washoe County Regional Animal Services in Reno.

We first covered the clinic when registration opened earlier this week.

The event aimed to provide 200 free spay and neuter surgeries, along with free vaccines from Petco Love and free microchips from the county shelter, to income qualified northern Nevada pet owners.

Eligible households needed a combined income of $60,000 or less per year.

Fast sellouts are not unusual for the organization’s spay and neuter programs.

SPCA of Northern Nevada’s standing monthly spay and neuter clinic releases a limited number of slots once a month because, according to the group, demand for affordable services consistently outpaces the number of appointments available.

This was the second joint clinic hosted by the three organizations. Last year’s event provided 203 spay and neuter surgeries, 283 vaccines, and 143 microchips to pets across Washoe County.

Pet owners who missed out on an October appointment can look into SPCA of Northern Nevada’s regular monthly spay and neuter clinic, or its voucher program for surrounding rural counties, both of which are listed on the organization’s website.
