The Animal Foundation Expands Doggy Day Out to All of October

Published September 28, 2026

The Animal Foundation is expanding its popular Doggy Day Out program throughout October, giving more Las Vegas shelter dogs a chance to trade kennel life for a few hours of fresh air, new surroundings and one-on-one attention.

Now called Doggy DAYS Out, the October program invites eligible shelter dogs on short field trips with members of the public. The outings don’t require a long-term fostering commitment and can be as simple as a walk, a trip somewhere dog-friendly or a stop for a pup cup.

A Day Away Can Make A Difference

Shelter life can be stressful for dogs, even those who seem comfortable in their surroundings. Noise, unfamiliar activity and limited individual attention can make it difficult for their personalities to shine.

A few hours away can provide mental stimulation and exercise while giving dogs a chance to decompress. It can also reveal behaviors and preferences that aren’t always visible in a shelter kennel, giving the Animal Foundation additional information to share with potential adopters.

The outings can also generate photos and short videos that show dogs enjoying life outside the shelter — another useful way to help them get noticed.

No Long-Term Commitment Required

Doggy DAYS Out is part of The Animal Foundation’s Foster Field Trip program, offering a way to help a shelter dog without taking on a traditional foster placement.

Most dogs over six months old and more than 30 pounds are eligible for field trips, although individual dogs may have additional requirements. The Animal Foundation provides a leash, harness and “Adopt Me” gear, along with basic supplies such as water bowls, treats and poop bags as available.

Participants also complete a quick evaluation after the outing to share how their dog did.

Make October A Little Better For A Shelter Dog

The Animal Foundation’s Doggy DAYS Out runs throughout October at 655 N. Mojave Road in Las Vegas. People interested in participating can complete the Foster Field Trip Application and browse dogs currently available for field trips.

For anyone who has ever wished they could help a shelter dog but wasn’t ready to foster or adopt, a few hours out of the kennel may be a meaningful place to start.
