Two New Bomb-Sniffing Labs, Olaf and Mufasa, Join Las Vegas Convention Center K9 Unit

Published October 6, 2026

Two new explosive-detection dogs named Olaf and Mufasa have joined the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority K9 unit, reports Fox5 Las Vegas.

Olaf is a yellow Labrador Retriever, and Mufasa is a black Labrador Retriever. They will help keep the Las Vegas Convention Center safe from explosive threats.

The pair will replace Bo and Wells, two black Labs who are retiring in November. LVCVA security officials showed off the new dogs’ skills in a demonstration this week.

Christopher Comstock, the LVCVA’s vice president of security for the Convention Center, said Labs are a strong fit for the job.

He pointed to their high energy, dedication, and friendly nature, and said a property this large needs dogs that love to work and will lead their handlers to a problem.

The Convention Center spans 4.6 million square feet across a 200-acre campus. More than a million visitors are expected this year.

Both dogs completed basic obedience training and about 10 weeks of additional training alongside several departments.

K9 Officer Kevin Kline, who just finished three months of training with Mufasa, said the dogs begin to take shape around the four-week mark.

The LVCVA works with a vendor that raises dogs until they are about 18 months old. A contractor then selects dogs with the right personality and energy level, and those with a low risk of biting.
