The Nevada Humane Society will waive adoption fees for eligible large dogs from September 30 to October 4 as part of its “Home Sweet Homecoming” campaign, according to 2 News Nevada.

To qualify, a dog must be at least 6 months old and weigh 60 pounds or more. The waiver applies at both the Reno and Carson City locations.

The campaign is a partnership with Hill’s Pet Nutrition. The Humane Society said large dogs can take longer to find homes than smaller dogs, and the waiver is meant to give them an extra chance at a match.

The event is part of the Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love program, which launched in 2002. According to the report, the program has helped more than 16 million cats and dogs find new homes and has provided more than $300 million in pet nutrition to partner shelters.

The offer is limited to Northern Nevada, so Las Vegas adopters would need to travel to take part. Southern Nevada shelters have run their own promotions this year, and Dog Friendly Las Vegas examined how often they happen in its look at seven fee waivers in eight months.

Nevada Humane Society has also been active in the community this season. It was the beneficiary of the Furever Home Bowl fundraiser at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno in August.
