The Animal Foundation has confirmed its participation in this year’s Clear the Shelters campaign, waiving adoption fees on adult cats and large adult dogs for the entire month of August.

The shelter had not released specifics when Dog Friendly Las Vegas first reported the campaign’s return, and those details are now official.

To qualify, animals must be at least six months old, and dogs must weigh more than 30 pounds.

The waiver runs from August 1 through August 31, and it applies on top of whatever capacity the shelter is managing week to week.

The promotion expands further at the end of the month.

On Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, the fee waiver will extend to every pet in the shelter, including puppies and kittens, marking the campaign’s 11th year locally.

Every fee-waived adoption still includes spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, and up to date vaccines. A $10 license fee may still apply, according to the shelter.

Adopters start at the Animal Foundation’s Adoption Search website to browse available pets before visiting in person.

All adoptions are handled walk-in and first-come, first-served, and prospective adopters can scan a QR code at the adoption center door to join the virtual waitlist starting at 8 a.m.

The shelter does not place holds on animals, and it does not allow dog-to-dog introductions on site, so current pets should stay home during the visit.

Nationally, Clear the Shelters has helped place more than 1.2 million pets since it launched, reports 8 News Now.

The timing lines up with a summer that has already strained Southern Nevada shelters.

The Animal Foundation entered a critical “red capacity” emergency in early August with 470 dogs on site, and we’ve been tracking the shelter’s overcrowding pressure since the campaign’s return was first announced.

Henderson Animal Protection Services and Nevada SPCA are running their own August promotions alongside the Animal Foundation’s push.
