Pet Food Recall: Viva Raw

Viva Raw Pulls two Lots Over Salmonella & Listeria Concerns
If you feed Viva Raw to your pup or cat, it’s time to take a close look in your freezer. On August 25, 2025, Viva Raw LLC voluntarily recalled two lots of its frozen ground beef and chicken recipes after testing by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture found possible contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall affects:
- Lot 21495 – Viva Ground Beef for Dogs, Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies
- Lot 21975 – Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs, Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs, Viva Chicken for Cats, Viva Pure Chicken
No illnesses have been reported to date, but both pathogens can make pets sick and pose risks to people who handle contaminated food or surfaces.

A Company That Set Out to Do Better
Viva Raw was founded with the mission of raising standards in raw pet food. After a recall in 2024, the company invested heavily in food safety testing, sanitation upgrades, and pathogen controls. They’ve been transparent about sharing their processes and challenges with their community.
But with this latest round of testing, Viva is taking precautionary action and pulling the affected lots while they investigate further.

What Pet Parents Should Do
If you have Viva Raw products in your freezer:
- Check the lot number on the top of the packaging.
- If it matches 21495 or 21975, stop feeding immediately.
- Dispose of the food safely so children, pets, and wildlife cannot access it.
- Wash and sanitize bowls, utensils, and surfaces that touched the food.
- Contact Viva Raw at info@vivarawpets.com or (919) 371-8882 for a refund.
Symptoms of Salmonella or Listeria in pets can include vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, and loss of appetite. In humans, symptoms may range from nausea and diarrhea to more serious complications in young children, older adults, or those with weakened immune systems. If you or your pet show symptoms after exposure, contact a medical provider or veterinarian.

Staying Safe Going Forward
Raw pet food recalls are not uncommon, and they’re a reminder to always:
- Double-check lot numbers when you buy or store pet food.
- Wash your hands after handling raw food.
- Keep pet food prep separate from human food prep whenever possible.
Viva has said they remain committed to raising the bar on safety and will continue updating their customers as they investigate.
