National Service Dog Month
September
About this observance
This month recognizes the dogs trained to support people with disabilities, from guide dogs to psychiatric service dogs. National Service Dog Month is a good time to learn the difference between a service dog, an emotional support animal, and a therapy dog, and to practice basic etiquette around a working dog. Never pet or distract a service dog without asking the handler first, even if the dog looks approachable.
