The votes are in, and Las Vegas is about to find out whether one of its own will take the stage at a nationally broadcast pet awards show in Los Angeles next Tuesday.
Marley, the bobtail dog behind the Instagram account @bumblybobtail, competed for Nevada’s “Best in State” title in the Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards, with public voting closing earlier this month.
The first-ever Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards ceremony takes place live in Los Angeles on June 23, hosted by comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias.
The awards show drew more than 14,000 entries and 10 million votes during its inaugural run, raising over $700,000 for animal welfare.
More than $300,000 of that total went directly to shelters across the country through a partnership with Best Friends Animal Society.
The state competition, called “Best in State,” recognizes one winning pet from each of the 50 states.
Those 50 state winners then compete for the “Best Pet in the Nation” award, presented by USA TODAY Pets, which includes a $10,000 prize package and national media coverage.
Marley’s owner, Danielle Dunker, launched the @bumblybobtail account to help other Las Vegas dog owners find places to go with their pets.
Marley has documented Aviators Bark on the Berm nights, doggy fashion shows, pool parties, and adoption events throughout the valley.
Marley reached the state finals after competing against more than 600 dogs statewide across two rounds of public voting, as Dog Friendly Las Vegas reported earlier this month.
The June 23 ceremony will reveal whether Nevada’s top spot goes to a Las Vegas dog.
The live event will take place in Los Angeles and is expected to be broadcast nationally. Broadcast details are to be announced.
