The Animal Foundation, Nevada’s largest animal shelter, placed 986 animals into new homes in July. That total included 424 dogs, 481 cats, and 81 other animals, reports Fox5 Las Vegas.

The shelter also reunited 388 lost pets with their owners during the month. Another 300 animals went into foster care, and 305 were transferred to rescue partners across the region.

Beyond adoptions, the shelter’s KEPPT pet food pantry supported 1,136 families in July. That effort ran on the work of 295 volunteers, who logged 5,664 hours of service.

The Animal Foundation said it hopes to repeat July’s success in August, and it continues to ask the community for fosters and volunteers.

July’s numbers follow a strong June, when the shelter reported more than 1,000 adoptions, including 417 dogs. But the shelter’s population pressure has not let up.

Just days after July closed out, The Animal Foundation entered its “red capacity” emergency zone with 470 dogs on site.

The shelter has since waived adoption fees on large dogs and cats through the end of August as part of the national Clear the Shelters campaign.
