Multiple families displaced by the Hawk Fire are turning to GoFundMe for help covering pet care costs after losing their homes north of Reno.

GoFundMe’s crisis response team has confirmed several fundraisers tied to the fire, reports This Is Reno.

The Lapin family lost their home within minutes when the fire swept through, leaving Nick and Jordan Lapin, their three children, and their dog Arlo to start over.

A veteran who lived atop Peavine Mountain for more than 20 years escaped the fire with his dogs but no belongings, and without fire insurance, he is now raising money to find a new home.

A Reno couple named Kelsey and Xander also lost their home in the fire and are seeking help with housing, clothing, and care for their family’s pets, alongside supplies for their two young sons.

Hilery and Paul escaped the fast-moving fire with their two teenage daughters and are raising money for temporary housing, essential belongings, and ongoing care for their pets.

We’ve followed the Hawk Fire closely since it broke out on August 22, including Washoe County’s decision to waive pet cremation fees for animals that didn’t survive the blaze.

These fundraisers represent families whose pets made it out safely but who are now facing veterinary bills, pet deposits on temporary housing, food, and other costs on top of losing their homes.

The fire destroyed 47 homes and buildings and forced roughly 87,000 people to evacuate at its peak before reaching 98 percent containment last weekend.

Nevada dog owners who want to help displaced families can search GoFundMe directly for Hawk Fire fundraisers, since new campaigns continue to be added as the platform’s crisis response team verifies them.

Community members can also support displaced pets through Washoe County Regional Animal Services or local rescue groups that have been assisting families throughout the fire’s aftermath.
