Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire in the east Las Vegas Valley on Monday, September 21, and kept the blaze contained to the garage.

All residents made it out safely before crews arrived, according to News3 Las Vegas.

The Clark County Fire Department received multiple reports of a garage fire around 11:30 a.m. near Harmon Avenue and Pecos Road, in the 4300 block of Cherry Stone Court. Crews arrived to heavy smoke and found the fire burning inside the garage.

Firefighters deployed hand lines to attack the flames, and a primary and secondary search of the home confirmed the occupants had already gotten out. One dog was still inside, and fire personnel carried it out safely.

The department sent an “M” level response to the call, made up of five engines, one truck company, two rescues, two battalion chiefs, and one air unit. In total, 31 responders worked the scene.

The fire stayed contained to the garage and never reached the home’s living areas. The cause of the fire and a damage estimate remain under investigation.

A similar call played out in June, when firefighters pulled two dogs from a burning North Las Vegas home.

Pet fire-safety steps like keeping a leash within reach and making sure a dog is microchipped can improve its chances of getting out safely if a fire breaks out at home.
