Country Vet & Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits Recalled Over Potential Salmonella Contamination

Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC has issued a voluntary recall of select dog biscuit products after routine FDA testing found potential Salmonella contamination. While no illnesses have been reported to date, the recall is being issued out of an abundance of caution to protect both pets and the people who handle their food.

What Products Are Affected

The recall applies to specific 4-pound bags from a single lot number:

  • Country Vet Biscuits – Original Meaty Flavor
    UPC: 899623000463
    Lot Code: 40906513
    Best By Date: 09/06/2026
  • Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits – Meaty Flavor with Chicken
    UPC: 840227340691
    Lot Code: 40906513
    Best By Date: 09/06/2026

Pet parents can find the lot number and expiration date printed directly on the packaging.

Where the Products Were Sold

The recalled biscuits were distributed through retail stores in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska. While Nevada is not listed among the affected states, Dog Friendly Las Vegas encourages local pet owners to double-check products purchased while traveling or ordered through third-party retailers.

Why Salmonella Is a Concern

Salmonella can affect both animals and humans. Dogs infected with Salmonella may show symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. Some pets may carry the bacteria without showing symptoms and can still spread it to other animals or people.

Humans exposed through handling contaminated pet products may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, or fever. In rare cases, more serious complications can occur. Anyone experiencing symptoms after contact with the recalled products should contact a healthcare provider.

What Pet Owners Should Do Now

If you have purchased either of the recalled products:

  • Stop feeding the biscuits immediately
  • Do not sell, donate, or give the product to other animals
  • Return unused portions to the place of purchase for a full refund, or safely dispose of them so pets, children, and wildlife cannot access them
  • Wash hands, bowls, storage containers, and surfaces that came into contact with the product

Pet owners whose dogs have consumed the recalled treats and are showing symptoms should contact their veterinarian promptly.

What Triggered the Recall

According to the company, the recall was initiated after routine FDA sampling detected Salmonella in the affected lot. Production and distribution of the lot have been suspended while Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC and the FDA investigate the source of the contamination.
