Henderson Animal Protection Services will cut adoption fees in half for most shelter pets throughout August as part of the national Clear the Shelters campaign.

The discount covers all animals six months and older and runs from August 1 through August 31.

The deal applies to dogs, cats, and other adoptable animals at the shelter, according to the City of Henderson. Puppies and kittens younger than six months are not included in the discount.

A dog older than six months and over 30 pounds normally costs $100 to adopt, which drops to $50 during the promotion, while a dog of the same age and under 30 pounds falls from $125 to $62.50.

Every adoption fee at the shelter already includes routine vaccines, spay or neuter surgery, a microchip with registration, and a rabies tag or Henderson license.

That makes the half-price window a low-cost way to bring home a fully vetted pet.

The timing matters for Southern Nevada. Valley shelters have run near capacity all summer, with heavy intake after July 4 fireworks and ongoing overcrowding across the region.

The promotion is Henderson’s local piece of Clear the Shelters, the NBCUniversal adoption drive returning for its 12th year this August. We first reported on the campaign’s return earlier this month.

All adoptions are handled in person on a first-come, first-served basis, and applicant screening is required. There are no appointments, and staff do not hold animals.

The shelter sits at 300 E. Galleria Drive in Henderson and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with adoptions finalized by 4:30 p.m.

It is closed on Sundays and government holidays.

Adopters can save time by filling out a preliminary application online before visiting, though an application does not reserve a specific animal.
