A puppy found abandoned at a dumpster in Henderson this week is recovering in the care of Hearts Alive Village Las Vegas, and the rescue says there are no leads on who dumped him, reports News 3 Las Vegas.

The puppy, whom the rescue has named Treasure, was discovered earlier this week at the dumpster site of Valley Ranch Animal Hospital near Valle Verde Drive and the 215 Beltway.

He arrived in serious condition.

Treasure was found with a broken leg, a previously broken jaw, and rocks in his stomach, and he is described as very thin.

The combination of old and new injuries suggests the puppy had been suffering for some time before he was abandoned.

Hearts Alive Village says nothing is known about his previous owner. News 3 has reached out to Henderson Police to determine whether the department is investigating.

Abandoning an animal is illegal in Nevada, and rescues across the valley have repeatedly urged struggling owners to reach out for help instead.

Local shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies can offer resources, surrender options, and support before a pet ends up in danger.

Hearts Alive Village has been especially visible in that role this summer.
