Las Vegas Breaks Ground on New Dog Park in East Las Vegas

A long-awaited dog park is finally coming to East Las Vegas — and it’s set to transform the neighborhood’s recreational landscape by summer 2026.
Las Vegas city officials have officially begun construction on the East Las Vegas Family Dog Park, a brand-new facility located beside East Las Vegas Family Park at 4484 E. Washington Avenue, near North Lamb Boulevard.
The project, announced during a groundbreaking ceremony on October 9, 2025, marks a major step forward for Ward 3, an area long identified as underserved when it comes to public green spaces.
A Long-Awaited Win for Ward 3
Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, who has championed numerous revitalization projects in East Las Vegas since taking office in 2019, led the ceremony and called the development a “huge victory” for local families and pet owners.
The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, with residents celebrating the announcement across social media as a long-overdue investment in their neighborhood.
The new dog park is designed to serve the area’s growing canine population, providing a safe, welcoming space for off-leash recreation — something residents have been requesting for years.
Designed for Every Dog
The East Las Vegas Family Dog Park will feature three separate fenced runs, each tailored for different dog sizes and play styles — one for small dogs, one for large dogs, and a mixed-use area.
This design follows successful models used at other top Las Vegas parks such as Mountains Edge and Desert Breeze.
Additional amenities include shaded seating for pet owners, waste disposal stations, and water access to keep pups cool during the city’s sweltering summers.
Construction is expected to wrap up by July 2026, giving the city just under a year to complete the project ahead of the peak heat season.
Building on Community Investment
This development builds on years of revitalization in East Las Vegas. Since 2019, Diaz has overseen the creation of Arroyo Vista Park and the East Las Vegas Family Park, which opened in December 2019 to fill what she described as a “dire need for additional park space.”
The surrounding area has already benefited from new playgrounds, basketball courts, synthetic turf soccer fields, and splash pads — all part of a broader plan to make Ward 3 a hub for family-friendly activity.
Expanding the City’s Dog Park Network
Once completed, the East Las Vegas Family Dog Park will join the city’s growing lineup of dog parks, including Sunset Park, Kellogg-Zaher Sports Complex, and Woofter Family Park.
Most of these parks are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, giving residents ample time to enjoy the outdoors with their pets.
The addition of a dedicated dog park in East Las Vegas is more than just an infrastructure project — it’s a sign of the city’s ongoing commitment to building a more pet-inclusive Las Vegas.
For local dog owners, it’s a long-awaited promise finally being delivered — and one that’s sure to make tails wag across the valley.
