A Las Vegas dog named Snow Flakes is now the fastest American Eskimo currently competing in the United States.

The young dog clocked an official 8.28 second time in the 100 yard FAST CAT dash at a Red Canyons Kennel Club event in St. George, Utah, an estimated speed of 24.70 mph, reports News 3 Las Vegas.

FAST CAT is an American Kennel Club competition that times dogs over a 100 yard sprint. Snow Flakes was born on August 10, 2024, meaning he is not yet two years old and still developing physically.

His trainer and owner, James Oliver, believes Snow Flakes has room to grow into world record territory as he matures.

The current AKC record for the breed belongs to CH Miracle Living With Gusto CAA FCAT5, who ran an estimated 25.27 mph.

Oliver, a Las Vegas public school educator, said his training approach is built on trust, communication, discipline, and a strong bond between dog and trainer.

He previously trained horses and has carried that experience into working with Snow Flakes.

Before teaching, Oliver worked as an Elvis Presley impersonator on the Las Vegas Strip after being recognized for his vocal resemblance to the singer.

He has spent the past 15 years as an elementary school teacher and has also coached youth sports teams to league, city, and state championships.

Supporters of canine sports say events like FAST CAT give dogs exercise and mental stimulation while strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners.

Nevada has its own version of the sport through Dash Dogs sprint trials, which run similarly to FAST CAT tests and give local dogs a chance to show off their speed closer to home.
