Local Bulldog Rescue Extends Auction Donation Deadline, Urges Las Vegas Businesses to Step In

A Las Vegas bulldog rescue is asking the community for help after receiving far fewer donations than expected for its annual online fundraising auction. Retired to Rescue announced it is extending the deadline for auction item donations by one week in hopes local businesses and supporters can step forward and help turn things around.

The nonprofit shared that last year’s auction raised more than $3,000, funds that directly supported bulldogs needing urgent veterinary care. According to the rescue, several dogs were able to receive major surgeries and lifesaving medical treatment thanks to the auction proceeds, underscoring how critical these community-driven fundraisers can be for small rescues operating with limited resources.

Now, with multiple dogs currently needing spay and neuter surgeries, ongoing medical care for dogs already in foster, and four additional dogs arriving into rescue this week, the organization says the need for support has never been greater.

Businesses and Community members Can Donate Auction Items

To help build the auction lineup, Retired to Rescue is asking local businesses and supporters to consider donating items that typically perform well in online auctions. Experiences and services are often especially popular with bidders.

Some examples of items the rescue hopes to include:

  • Photography sessions
  • Grooming certificates
  • Salon or self-care services
  • Gift cards such as Amazon, Chewy, or retail stores
  • Gift certificates for Las Vegas restaurants
  • Sports or concert tickets
  • High-value or themed gift baskets
  • Unique experiences or specialty services

To help encourage strong bids, the rescue asks that donated gift certificates be valued at $50 or more whenever possible.

Anyone interested in donating an item can contact the rescue directly at retiredtorescue@gmail.com.

Fundraisers Like These Help Rescues Fill the Gap

Across Nevada, rescues large and small rely heavily on community donations and fundraising events to continue their work. Veterinary care, spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, food, and transportation costs can add up quickly, particularly for dogs arriving with medical needs.

Organizations throughout Southern Nevada — including breed-specific rescues like Retired to Rescue as well as larger groups such as Hearts Alive Village, and others — frequently depend on events, sponsorships, and community partnerships to fund lifesaving care.

In many cases, fundraisers like online auctions help cover costs that adoption fees alone cannot support, especially for dogs requiring specialized surgeries or long-term rehabilitation.

How Local Businesses Can Make a Difference

For businesses, donating an auction item can be a simple way to support animal welfare while connecting with new customers in the community. Service-based donations — such as grooming appointments, dining experiences, fitness classes, or creative services — often generate strong auction interest while showcasing what local businesses have to offer.

Community partnerships like these are often what allow rescues to say yes when a dog arrives needing urgent medical help.
