The majority of dogs seized in last month’s Mesquite animal cruelty case have now been placed with rescue partners or adopted into new homes, reports Fox5 Las Vegas.

Mesquite police confirmed this week that the remaining dogs have been vaccinated and given health checks, and are ready for adoption.

About 17 adult dogs remain at the Mesquite Animal Shelter, along with several puppies who continue to receive care while they await placement.

Five rescue organizations and animal welfare partners helped make that possible, including the Humane Society of Northern Utah, Henderson Animal Control, and Pawsitive Vegas.

Suspect Giustino Laudando appeared in court on Wednesday, June 3. Laudando and co-defendant Michelle Santos each face eight felony counts of animal cruelty and more than 100 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect.

Police first recovered 77 dogs from an overcrowded RV outside Mesquite on May 15, then seized 33 more and made arrests, bringing the total to 114 animals.
