See’s Candies is using its Reno and Sparks stores to help fund medical care for shelter dogs, part of the chocolate company’s fourth annual DOGust campaign running through the end of August.

The chocolatier has partnered with the 15/10 Foundation, which covers medical costs to remove adoption barriers for vulnerable dogs, reports KOLO.

See’s has stores at Meadowood Mall in Reno and the Sparks Galleria.

The company set a fundraising goal of $105,000 this year to mark its 105th anniversary, and shoppers can donate directly at checkout in any See’s store or online.

Customers who visit a store during the campaign also receive a free “S” Medallion dog biscuit for their own dogs.

See’s is selling DOGust-themed merchandise this month, including a new chocolate-filled Paw Box and a See’s-branded bandana, with proceeds supporting the cause.

The 15/10 Foundation funds critical medical and behavioral care for shelter and rescue dogs who might otherwise be passed over for adoption because of their needs.

The foundation also uses donations to fund free or low-cost spay and neuter clinics, vaccine clinics, and wellness care in underserved communities.

August 1 marks the unofficial universal birthday for shelter and rescue dogs nationwide, which is why See’s and the foundation launch the campaign at the start of the month each year.

See’s president and CEO Pat Egan said the company has run DOGust since 1921 in spirit, tying the campaign to its long history of community giving in the communities where it operates stores.

Dog owners in Reno and Sparks who want to support the campaign can visit either local See’s location before it wraps up at the end of the month, or donate directly through the 15/10 Foundation’s website.
