Sparks Firefighters Rescue Dog Stranded on Second-Story Ledge

Sparks firefighters rescued a dog that had become stranded on the ledge of a house on Friday, July 10.

The crew of Ladder 51 responded and safely returned the dog to solid ground, according to a Sparks Fire Department Facebook post.

No humans or dogs were harmed during the rescue, reports KOLO 8 News Now. The fire department did not release the dog’s name, breed, or how it ended up on the ledge in the first place.

The rescue is the latest instance of Sparks first responders stepping in to help local pets.

Earlier this year, the Sparks Fire Department teamed up with the Nevada Humane Society for its first ever pet food drive, placing donation bins at all six Sparks fire stations.

Sparks crews have also carried pet microchip scanners in the field, using them to help reunite lost dogs and cats with their families.

The department’s animal rescues have become a regular feature of its community outreach alongside its firefighting duties.

The rescue comes as much of northern Nevada remains under a heat advisory this week.

Dog owners are reminded to keep pets supervised, hydrated, and out of direct sun during the hottest parts of the day.
