The Pottery Shop Lets Las Vegas Dog Lovers Make Their Own Slow Feeder Bowls
Dog lovers looking for a creative way to celebrate their pets can get their hands dirty for a good cause at the dinner bowl. The Pottery Shop is offering a beginner-friendly wheel-throwing workshop where participants can make a handmade ceramic slow feeder designed for their favorite furry dining companion.
The Slow Your Roll: Slow Feeder Wheel Workshop invites participants ages 16 and older to shape their own ceramic bowl, complete with raised sections intended to encourage slower eating. No pottery wheel experience is necessary, and the studio takes care of the finishing, glazing and firing after class.
For $55 per person, the experience includes guided instruction, clay, tools, materials and one slow feeder bowl to keep. Participants select their preferred color during the workshop, then leave the rest to the studio. The finished piece will be ready for pickup in approximately four to six weeks, with the shop sending a text when it is ready.
A Handmade Bowl with a Purpose
Slow feeder bowls are designed to make mealtime a little less of a race. Their raised interior patterns create obstacles that encourage dogs to work around the bowl as they eat rather than quickly consuming their food from a traditional dish.
At this workshop, participants get to create that functional design themselves. The class focuses on shaping the bowl on a pottery wheel and forming its interior features, giving each finished piece its own handmade character.
Because pottery is an unpredictable process, the studio notes that finished shapes and sizes will vary. It also cannot guarantee that every participant will produce a piece suitable for firing. If a participant’s creation cannot be fired, they may select a finished piece as a memento of the experience.
The studio also notes that ceramics shrink approximately 15% between throwing and final firing, and pieces can crack during drying or either firing stage.
November Workshop Dates
The Pottery Shop currently lists four November sessions for the slow feeder workshop:
- November 7th at 5 p.m.
- November 14th at 3 p.m.
- November 21st at 5 p.m.
- November 28th at 3 p.m.
Each session lasts approximately one hour, or until participants complete the project, whichever comes first. Seats are limited, and everyone participating in the wheel area must have a reservation. The class is open to ages 16 and older, with no spectators permitted in the wheel area.
What to Know Before You Go
This is a hands-on pottery experience, so participants should dress for the occasion. The studio recommends comfortable clothing that can get messy, closed-toe shoes and tying back long hair. Loose jewelry and rings should be left at home, and participants should be aware that fingernails may get dirty or break during the process.
The Pottery Shop is a cashless studio and accepts major credit cards and Apple Pay. Its reservation policy does not allow cancellations or rescheduling within 48 hours of a class, and no refunds or credits are issued for no-shows. Reservations and participation are also subject to the studio’s policies and class information.
For dog owners, the finished bowl offers a personal touch for the home and a reminder of a creative afternoon spent making something for a beloved pet. It may even make mealtime a little more interesting.
