Las Vegas has crossed back into triple-digit territory, and the heat is only building.

Temperatures reached 101°F on Tuesday, June 2, with the forecast climbing to 104°F on Wednesday and 105°F on Thursday before easing slightly into the weekend.

This is the first sustained triple-digit stretch of summer 2026, which means most dogs have not had time to acclimate. If your routine has stayed the same since spring, now is the time to change it.

Walk Times Are Non-Negotiable Right Now

Pavement in direct Las Vegas sun can reach 160°F when air temperatures hit triple digits. If you press your palm flat to the asphalt for seven seconds and can’t hold it, your dog cannot walk on it safely.

Move walks to before 7 a.m. or after 8 p.m., when ground surfaces have had time to cool. Grass runs significantly cooler than pavement and is the better choice for any midday outing that can’t be avoided.

Know the Signs of Overheating

Watch for excessive panting, heavy drooling, stumbling, or a dog that suddenly stops and refuses to move. Those are not rest breaks. They are warnings.

If your dog shows any of those signs, get them into air conditioning immediately and call your vet.

The Legal Reminder

The City of Las Vegas ordinance requires active cooling when temperatures reach 105°F or above. Dogs may not be tethered outdoors at all during a National Weather Service heat advisory.

As reports Fox5 Las Vegas, temperatures are expected to peak Thursday before a weather system arrives late in the week.

The relief is temporary. June is historically when Las Vegas settles into its summer heat pattern for months at a time.

This Is Different From March

Las Vegas already saw an unprecedented heat wave in March that caught many dog owners off guard. Summer heat is expected, but the first week of it still carries real risk because neither dogs nor their owners have had time to adjust.

Carry water on every walk, offer it every 15 to 20 minutes, and keep outdoor time short until the worst of this stretch passes.
