Veterans, Families, and Dogs Invited to Scenic Lake Mead ‘Warrior Hike’ on March 7
A community-led “Warrior Hike” is set to take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the iconic Historic Railroad Trail near Lake Mead.
The event begins at 8:45 AM with a meet-up in the parking lot below the Lake Mead Visitor Center, before stepping off promptly at 9:00 AM for what organizers describe as an easy but meaningful trek through one of Southern Nevada’s most striking landscapes.
The route follows the well-maintained and largely flat Historic Railroad Trail, a roughly 7.5-mile round-trip walk that features five massive, century-old railroad tunnels carved into the desert hills.
Originally built to support the construction of the Hoover Dam, the tunnels now frame sweeping views of Lake Mead’s blue waters and rugged canyon walls.
It is widely considered one of the most accessible scenic hikes in the region, making it suitable for a broad range of fitness levels.
Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace, with front and rear guides helping ensure that no one is left behind.
At the halfway point, hikers will pause for a moment of reflection. Those walking in memory of a loved one are invited to bring a small item, photo, or flag as a personal tribute.
Organizers are urging participants to come prepared. Plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking shoes are considered essential.
Flags are encouraged, and no RSVP is required. The event is free to attend.
