We cover a lot of Southern Nevada pet events, but every now and then something pops up that’s just too charming to scroll past. The Wiener Dog & Corgi Races, happening June 27 at the 3C Events Complex during the DeGolyer Buckin’ Horse & Bull Bash, is one of those moments.
Hosted by the City of Fallon Animal Shelter, this all-ages crowd favorite puts some of the most determined little runners in the spotlight. From Dachshunds to Corgis, it’s a full day built around short legs, big personalities, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines.
Race Day Schedule
The day is split into two heats so each group gets its moment in the spotlight:
Wiener Dog (Dachshund) Races
Check-in: 11:30 AM
Races begin: 12:00 PM
Corgi Races
Check-in: 1:00 PM
Races begin: 1:30 PM
Spots are limited, and participants are encouraged to register early by contacting the Fallon Animal Shelter at 775-423-2282.
A Small Town Event With Big Road Trip Energy
Fallon sits roughly six hours from Las Vegas, which makes this less of a quick outing and more of a “pack snacks, cue the playlist, and make a day of it” kind of adventure. But for a lineup like this, two of the internet’s most beloved dog breeds racing for glory, it’s not hard to see the appeal.
There’s something about watching a tiny dog sprint full speed for absolutely no reason other than joy that turns even a long drive into part of the experience. And honestly, how far would you travel for a race like this?
A Perfectly Unserious Way to Spend a Summer Day
Between the rodeo atmosphere of the Buckin’ Horse & Bull Bash and the pure entertainment of dachshunds and corgis doing what they do best (which is sometimes running, sometimes not), this is the kind of event that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly the point.
Whether you’re a local or willing to make the trip north, the Wiener Dog & Corgi Races offer a lighthearted reminder of why community pet events are so easy to love: simple setup, big personality, and dogs stealing the entire show without even trying.
