Heartbreak For Vegas Rescue Darla As She Returns to SNARL After 4 Years In Home

A six-year-old terrier and pit bull mix is back in rescue care in Las Vegas after nearly four and a half years in a home, following a death in the family and financial hardship that forced her return.

Potatah, now known as Darla, is once again waiting for stability after her previous family made the difficult decision to surrender her so she could have the best chance at care and a fresh start.

Rewind to 2021

Darla first arrived at rescue from a shelter in 2021, where she was known as Potatah.

She was adopted and spent years in a home environment before tragedy struck, leading to her return through no fault of her own.

Now six years and ten months old, she is settling back into rescue life while volunteers work to help her feel safe again.

She is currently in boarding while the organization searches urgently for a foster home; a calmer, more stable environment where her true personality can shine.

What Volunteers Know So Far

Darla is undergoing a veterinary evaluation to ensure she is healthy after her transition back into care.

She is learning the routine again, meeting new people, and slowly showing her volunteer friends what makes her happiest.

Those who know her describe her as affectionate and deeply people-oriented.

Her former owner shared that Darla “is the sweetest girl and loves everyone,” adding that she adores cuddling on the couch and soaking up belly rubs.

A Cuddler With A Sunny Side

At heart, Darla is a homebody.

She enjoys lounging, sunbathing in the yard, and letting you know when it is dinner time.

She has been raised with other dogs, but can show food-related resource guarding, meaning she would do best either as the only dog or in a home experienced and confident in managing those behaviors.

She also has a strong prey drive and enjoys chasing birds and cats in the backyard, so a home without cats or small mammals is essential.

Right now, Darla’s most urgent need is a new home in Las Vegas.
