Police Find Car in Las Vegas Dog Walker Hit-and-Run, Driver Still at Large

A man was critically injured while walking his dog in east Las Vegas on May 2, and the driver who hit him has still not been caught. As of May 8, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the vehicle has been located, but the driver remains at large.

The question every dog owner will want answered is: what happened to the dog? Police have not released any information about the animal’s condition, and no outlet has confirmed whether the dog was injured, escaped unharmed, or is currently being cared for. We have reached out for comment and will update this post when we hear back.

Police have since identified the suspect vehicle as a blue 2015 Toyota RAV4. It is expected to have moderate damage to the right-side headlight assembly and hood, along with possible minor damage to the lower right corner of the windshield.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the intersection of East Charleston Boulevard and North Mojave Road. Surveillance footage reviewed by LVMPD shows the man and his dog were in a marked crosswalk, though police noted the pedestrian was crossing against the “walk, don’t walk” signal.

A dark-colored SUV traveling westbound on Charleston in the left lane struck the pedestrian, throwing him onto the roadway. The driver did not stop and fled the area immediately.

The man was transported to the Trauma Center at University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His condition has not been publicly updated since his admission.

Anyone with information is asked to contact LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section at (702) 828-3595 or (702) 828-3060.
