Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, one of Las Vegas’s longest-running animal welfare nonprofits, has been awarded a $15,000 grant from Petco Love to expand low-cost veterinary care for pets in Southern Nevada.
The grant makes Heaven Can Wait one of nearly 200 veterinary care providers across the country to receive funding as part of a Petco Love initiative totaling more than $1.2 million in awards for spay, neuter, and low-cost vet clinics nationwide.
“Every day, we meet pet parents who deeply love their pets but are struggling to afford the foundational veterinary care these pets deserve,” said Rachel Bergren, executive director of Heaven Can Wait Animal Society.
“Thanks to Petco Love, we can be there for those families to offer hope, relief, and some real solutions.”
The funding comes at a critical time for Las Vegas pet owners. Urban veterinary costs have risen nearly 60% over the past decade, with a 5% increase from February 2025 to February 2026 alone.
Petco Love, the national nonprofit arm of the pet supplies retailer, said the grants are designed to keep pets and families together by reducing economic euthanasia and the surrender of animals when owners can’t afford care.
Since 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $441 million in lifesaving efforts and helped adopt out more than 7.1 million pets.
Heaven Can Wait Animal Society was founded in 2000 and has since performed surgeries on more than 215,000 dogs and cats in Southern Nevada.
The organization estimates those procedures have prevented roughly 600,000 animals from being born into uncertain or dangerous conditions.
