Inside the 3rd Annual Wag & Walk: A Brunch Where Rescue Dogs Stole the Show

When the rain finally cleared over Water Street, Dog Friendly Las Vegas made our way to Chinitas Tapas & Sushi for the 3rd Annual Wag & Walk “Runway Edition” Fundraiser — and from the moment we arrived, it was clear this event had one purpose: celebrate rescue with heart, community, and wagging tails.

A Warm Welcome on a Rainy Morning

The upstairs space at Chinitas offered a seamless blend of a cozy indoor dining area and their charming outdoor patio. Check-in was quick, leading us straight to the patio where adoptable pups from Vegas Roots Rescue greeted attendees. Guests browsed rescue merch like hoodies and stickers, snapped photos at the booth, and mingled with volunteers sharing stories of the dogs hoping to find homes.

The rain might have threatened the morning, but the energy was unmistakably bright – a reflection of the incredible turnout that ultimately helped FOHAS double the proceeds of last year’s event, a milestone the foundation shared with deep gratitude.

Puppies, Photos, and a Packed House

Inside, the event was already in full swing. Live entertainment set the tone from the stage while early attendees filled the room, chatting over coffee and settling into their assigned tables. With pups rotating through the indoor seating area for meet-and-greets, there was no shortage of puppy kisses before the main programming began.

A Silent Auction That Turned Guests Into Friendly Competitors

Before brunch was served, attendees lined the aisles to bid on silent auction items thoughtfully arranged at the center of the room. Options ranged from wine and golf packages to a towering dog toy bundle — plus standout prizes like a set of Vegas Golden Knights tickets.

FOHAS expressed heartfelt thanks to every donor who contributed auction items, acknowledging that the generosity of community partners is what allows the event’s fundraising to make such an impact.

The atmosphere was lively and playful, with guests making return trips to check their bids and outmaneuver their table neighbors — all for a cause that directly supports animal welfare in the community.

Mimosas, Donut Wall, and Fruit Stations

As bidding continued, guests enjoyed mimosas and Bloody Marys from the bar, alongside a beautifully presented donut wall and fresh fruit. Conversations flowed easily as attendees wandered between drinks, snacks, puppies, and auction tables — a perfect warm-up to the main meal ahead.

A Brunch Worth Waiting For

Once the brunch officially opened by table, attendees were treated to a well-organized and delicious spread. Chinitas served an impressive array that included salmon and ham quiches, breakfast potatoes, salads, pastries, chicken and waffles, and more. Staff kept everything moving smoothly, offering guidance and quick support as guests made their way through the buffet.

FOHAS extended a special thank you to Chanthy and her team at Chinitas Tapas & Sushi, not only for hosting the event again but for donating a portion of their food and beverage sales to support the foundation’s work.

The Runway Takes Center Stage

When plates were cleared, the “Runway Edition” lived up to its name. Young philanthropists — kids and teens proudly representing the next generation of rescue advocates — carried adoptable pups down the runway to cheers and applause.

The participation of Vegas Roots Rescue added even more meaning to the moment. FOHAS shared their thanks for the rescue’s partnership and for bringing adoptable dogs who stole the show – and in several cases, the hearts of new families.

Several dogs were adopted during the event, including pups who completely won over guests during their meet-and-greet laps around the room. Moments of joy, laughter, and soft squeals (mostly from adults) were impossible to miss.

A Live Auction With Heart

After the runway, excitement turned to the live auction. This year’s standout items included two highly coveted jerseys — a signed Shea Langeliers jersey and a Vegas Golden Knights jersey signed by the entire team.

FOHAS highlighted a particularly meaningful contribution from VGK’s Zach Whitecloud and his wife Maddy, who donated a Whitecloud autograph basket of their favorite things and also helped secure the team-signed VGK jersey. Together, these two items alone raised around $5,000 for the foundation – a moment in generosity that did not go unnoticed.

A Community United Around Rescue

Throughout the day, we met philanthropists, business owners, nonprofit supporters, restaurant leaders, and everyday dog lovers — all united by their passion for rescue. Conversations turned into friendships as people swapped photos, shared stories, and celebrated the work happening behind the scenes to support Henderson’s animals.

FOHAS co-founder Kenni Burdette delivered a heartfelt speech about the organization’s beginnings and the community that makes its mission possible. For readers wanting to learn more about FOHAS, our earlier feature; How Fohas Is Giving Forgotten Animals a Voice, offers a deeper look into their work.

We were also fortunate to meet Chanthy Walsh, of Chinitas Tapas & Sushi, who helped deliver a beautifully staged venue, seamless service, and a delicious menu that truly elevated the fundraiser.

Outside, Audi Henderson showcased four impressive vehicles and sponsored a table inside – another generous show of community involvement that FOHAS warmly acknowledged.

A Morning That made a Difference

Dog Friendly Las Vegas didn’t walk away with any of the silent auction prizes, but we absolutely left richer — in memories, connections, and a renewed appreciation for the passionate community supporting rescue in Henderson and surrounding areas.

The Wag & Walk once again proved why it’s a must-attend annual event. It brought people together, raised funds for life-changing programs, and gave several pups a home before the afternoon was over. We’ll be watching for tickets to become available next year — and we hope you’ll join us.
