Dozens of Mesquite RV Dogs Are Finding New Homes, With More Adoptions Available This Week

More than 20 of the dogs rescued from a hoarding case in Mesquite, Nevada have been transferred to the Humane Society of Utah, where 10 have already been adopted into permanent homes.

The Humane Society of Utah took in 21 of the more than 100 neglected dogs recovered during the months-long investigation.

On Sunday, 13 of those dogs were made available for adoption, and all but three found new families the same day.

The dogs ranged in age from 3 months old to much older. According to Guinn Shuster, director of marketing and communications for the Humane Society of Utah, the dogs were in better shape than expected given the circumstances.

“These guys were actually quite friendly, and they were in a little bit better health than we have seen in past cases,” Shuster told KUTV.

“Of course, they all needed to be groomed, and some had minor skin ailments, but we’re making sure they’re all getting the veterinary care that they need.”

The remaining dogs from the Utah transfer are available for adoption Monday and throughout the first week of June.

Shuster credited community members who reported the conditions for making the rescues possible.

Back in Nevada, suspect Giustino Laudando is due in court on June 3.

Laudando and co-defendant Michelle Santos were arrested May 19 on eight felony counts of animal cruelty and more than 100 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect.

Police first recovered 77 dogs from an RV outside Mesquite before seizing 33 more and making arrests, ultimately bringing the total to 114 animals.

In the days that followed, more than $30,000 in donations poured in for the Mesquite Animal Shelter to cover medical costs for the animals still in its care.
