Nevada’s Longest-Running Dog Event Returns May 16, and the Early Registration Deadline is Looming

The Churchill Animal Protection Society is hosting its 20th annual Bark in the Park on Saturday, May 16 at the Churchill County Fairgrounds in Fallon, with discounted registration open through May 15.

The 5K registration fee is $40 until May 15, rising to $50 after that date. The Fun Run is $20 until May 15, $25 after, with children 12 and under free and no entry fee for dogs.

5K check-in opens at 6:30 a.m. with the race starting at 7:30 a.m. The Fun Run check-in is at 8:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start. All activities and vendor booths are free to the public.

The day features a patriotic dog costume contest in honor of America 250, live music by Leeteville Junction, vendor booths, bounce houses, and other kids’ activities.

An adoption meet and greet with CAPS dogs will also be held throughout the event.

In 2025, volunteers gave more than 400 hours to CAPS and helped facilitate 95 successful adoptions.

This year the organization has also introduced the Pawsitive Impact Scholarship, awarded to Churchill County students who demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare through volunteerism.

Leashed dogs are welcome at all parts of the event. Sponsors are still being sought and can reach CAPS at 775-423-7500.

Fallon is roughly a two-hour drive from Las Vegas. For those looking for dog-friendly events and adoption opportunities closer to home, The Animal Foundation currently has dozens of dogs in its care, and the Barx Parx Foundation’s Cash for a Splash fundraiser is also running through June 4 for those who want to support local animal welfare in the valley.
