New Dog Ball Challenges Kong and Chuckit – Why Las Vegas Dog Owners Are Paying Attention

Las Vegas dog owners know the struggle. You spend good money on a new toy, your dog falls in love with it, and somewhere between the dog park, hiking trail, backyard, or living room, it eventually meets its demise.

For some dogs, that’s a matter of months. For others, it’s a matter of minutes.

That reality has created an entire category of “tough dog toys” featuring familiar names like Kong, Chuckit!, West Paw, Goughnuts, Jolly Pets, and countless others all competing to solve the same problem: building something that can survive enthusiastic canine play while still keeping dogs interested.

Odie offers customizable pet insurance and wellness plans that help cover vet bills for accidents, illnesses, and routine care.

Now a new contender has entered the conversation.

Trooper, a dog ball currently funding on Kickstarter, is generating attention by claiming to rethink the traditional fetch ball from the ground up. Developed over two years and tested with more than 100 dogs, the creators say every element was designed around how dogs actually see, chew, carry, chase, and interact with toys.

Whether it lives up to those claims remains to be seen, but the concept raises an interesting question for dog owners everywhere:

What actually makes a great dog ball?

The Challenge: Most Dog Toys Solve Only Part of the Problem

The durable dog toy market has evolved dramatically over the last decade.

Kong built a reputation around extreme durability and enrichment. Chuckit! became synonymous with fetch. West Paw developed eco-conscious toys with strong durability guarantees. Goughnuts focused heavily on safety indicators and power chewers.

Each brand carved out a niche.

The challenge is that most toys excel at one or two things.

A toy might be incredibly durable but not particularly engaging. Another may be fantastic for fetch but wear out quickly. Some float. Some squeak. Some bounce unpredictably. Very few attempt to combine all of those traits into a single product.

That appears to be where Trooper is aiming.

What Makes Trooper Different?

According to its creators, Trooper was built around seven core design elements.

Among the more notable features:

  • Natural rubber construction designed for durability
  • Floating capability for water play
  • High-visibility colors selected based on canine vision research
  • GripLock grooves that make carrying easier and can also hold treat spreads
  • StimBounce surface features designed to massage gums during chewing
  • Dishwasher-safe construction
  • A “Precision Squeak System” that only activates when dogs bite specific locations

It’s not clear, but the company implies it may be compatible with Chuckit! launchers, which would be a practical consideration for dog owners who already own existing fetch equipment. The company is creating their own launcher said to pack down for easy travel.

One feature that stood out to us is the ability to use the grooves for enrichment. Similar to how many owners stuff Kongs with treats or peanut butter, Trooper allows food-based enrichment while still functioning primarily as a fetch toy.

The Squeaker Concept Is Actually Interesting

Anyone who has lived with a squeaker-obsessed dog knows there are two sides to squeaky toys.

Dogs often love them.

Humans eventually question their life choices.

Trooper’s creators attempted to address that by engineering a squeaker that only activates when bitten in specific spots.

The idea is to make the squeak feel more like a reward rather than creating a constant soundtrack of squeak-squeak-squeak throughout the house.

Whether dogs agree remains to be seen.

Why Nevada Dog Owners May Appreciate Features Like These

Southern Nevada presents unique challenges for dog gear.

Between desert trails, rocky terrain, campground adventures, lake trips, backyard pools, and triple-digit summer temperatures, toys often experience conditions that many product designers never consider.

A ball that floats matters if you’re headed to Lake Mead.

Durability matters when toys spend time baking in a Las Vegas backyard.

Even something as simple as washability becomes more important when a toy is constantly collecting dust, dirt, and trail grime.

Many active Nevada dog owners already carry multiple toys to cover different situations. Products attempting to combine several functions into one package are naturally going to attract attention.

Kickstarter Means Promise, Not Proof

It’s important to remember that Trooper is still a Kickstarter project.

The company has experience launching products through crowdfunding and reports successful fulfillment through its sister brand, ORIJIN. However, Kickstarter campaigns are still fundamentally early-stage products.

Supporters are backing a concept and helping fund production.

That means real-world durability claims won’t truly be tested until thousands of dogs get their mouths on them.

Current Kickstarter pricing starts at approximately $23 for a single ball, with discounted multi-ball packages available.

Estimated delivery is listed as January 2027, meaning dog owners will likely be waiting several months before they can see whether Trooper performs as advertised.

Until then, it may be wise to keep a few backup Kongs, Chuckit! balls, and other trusted favorites on hand while we wait to see if Trooper truly becomes the ball dogs have been waiting for.
