Nevada’s Biggest Dog Show Weekend Is This Week, and It’s Just 45 Minutes From the Strip
Most Las Vegas dog owners have never heard of Primm in the context of purebred dogs, but this weekend that changes.
The Silver State Kennel Club descends on Primm Valley Resort for three days of conformation, obedience, and rally competition starting this Friday, making it the largest dog event in the greater Las Vegas area so far in 2026.
The weekend opens on Friday, March 20 with specialty shows, including the Golden Retriever Club of Southern Nevada, two shows from the Great Dane Club of Las Vegas, Southern Nevada Boxer Club, and obedience and rally trials hosted by the Vegas Valley Dog Obedience Club.
Saturday and Sunday expand into full all-breed shows, where dogs from every AKC-recognized group compete for conformation titles under judges flown in for the event.
The American Belgian Malinois Club has a supported entry running both days, and the Great Dane Club of Las Vegas continues with a concurrent specialty on Saturday.
What makes this worth knowing about isn’t just the competition.
Silver State Kennel Club has been part of the Las Vegas dog community since 1954, when Joe and Joan Cox placed a newspaper ad and twelve local dog lovers showed up to the first meeting. Dues were five dollars.
The first AKC all-breed show followed in 1961, and the club has run one every year since. Seventy-two years later it’s one of the most established kennel clubs in the country, and its annual show is still the only event of this scale produced entirely out of Southern Nevada.
The club runs a Canine Giving Fund that has donated to causes ranging from local rescues to oxygen masks for Henderson Fire Department K9 units, and offers a Junior Handling Scholarship at each annual show — meaning the weekend doubles as a fundraising event for the local dog community whether or not you’ve ever watched a dog show in your life.
The venue is Primm Valley Resort & Casino at 31900 S Las Vegas Blvd in Primm, roughly 45 miles south of the Strip on the California border.
