Treasure, the Belgian Malinois mix puppy found abandoned near a dumpster in Henderson, is recovering in foster care and is set to move into a permanent adoptive home.

Hearts Alive Village held a send-off for the puppy on Thursday as he met the family that plans to adopt him, reports Fox5 Las Vegas.

The case remains under active investigation. Henderson Police told Fox5 this week that no additional details are available about who abandoned Treasure.

Dog Friendly Las Vegas first reported on Treasure after he was found dumped near a Henderson animal hospital, and later covered his stay in critical care as investigators worked the case.

A Good Samaritan brought Treasure to Valley Ranch Animal Hospital near Valle Verde Drive and the 215 after noticing him near the hospital’s trash cans.

Veterinarian Dr. Dina Ibrahim said the client spotted “some eyes” in her rearview camera and stopped to check.

X-rays showed both of Treasure’s legs were broken, and he also had a jaw fracture that was already healing from a prior injury.

Imaging revealed rocks in his abdomen as well, a detail Ibrahim said could be consistent with a dog that had been kept outdoors.

Despite his injuries, Ibrahim said Treasure remained affectionate throughout his exams.

Hearts Alive Village later took him in and arranged emergency treatment at Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center and Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.

Amy Clatterbuck, director of operations for Hearts Alive Village, credited the specialty veterinary teams for Treasure’s recovery, calling him “our treasure” rather than trash.

Treasure has been recovering in a foster home with a Hearts Alive Village employee since the rescue. His new adoptive family was connected to him through a previous Hearts Alive adopter.

Hearts Alive Village and the Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center are urging anyone who needs to rehome a pet to contact a shelter or rescue group instead of abandoning the animal.

Options include The Animal Foundation, Henderson Animal Shelter, and the Nevada SPCA.
